Find a Mini Drum Set on eBay for Your Child!
A 3 piece or 4 piece mini drum set is perfect for a small child. Mini drums are usually close to being 'toys', but they are real enough for your child to practice drumming while still having fun. Most mini drum sets for kids include a base drum, some combination of a snare drum and one or two tom-tom drums (maybe a floor tom if it includes 3 tom-toms), and 1 or 2 cymbols. This is basically a condensed version of a real drum set, as it won't have a high-hat cymbol or some of the other normal pieces, but again it will be enough for a small child to practice and have fun.
Check the specific product listing because it will almost always include all the other accessories you'll need like drum sticks, drumming seat, and bass drum pedal. Most mini drum kits are a 'all in one package' and come with virtually everything your child will need to start drumming (but read the listing carefully to be sure).
You'll find great deals on new mini drum kits on eBay, but if you are buying a drum set for a child you should also consider buying a used mini drum set as well. Often time parents will upgrade their kids to real drum sets, like a starter drum set, so there are always lots of used mini drum kits for sale on the market. Buying a used set means getting more for your investment, plus if your kid drummer turns out not to like drumming too much, you haven't invested in a new set (and you can list it right back on eBay!)
Also, screen carefully what type of drum kit you are buying, because different sizes and drum set styles are meant for different ages. Generally the product listing will indicate the right ages for the kit, as there are specific sizes for drum sets for 3-7 year olds, then 7-11 year olds, then teenagers. Usually a 'mini drum set' is meant for kids under 5 or 6 years old, and sell for less than $120. Even these mini drum sets have pretty good quality and are built for the beating they likely will get from children. The sets for older kids are usually more expensive and higher quality 4 piece and 5 piece junior drum sets.
