Choosing a 3, 4, or 5 piece set is really all up to your budget, your child will be able to practice and have fun with any type. Most of these children drum sets for kids include a base drum, snare drum, one/two/three tom-tom drums (include a floor tom if it includes 3). They will also usually include a high-hat cymbal and crash cymbal. Check the specific product listing because it might also include all the other accessories you'll need like drum sticks, drumming seat, bass drum pedal, and drum key. Most children drum kits are a 'all in one package' and come with virtually everything your child will need to become a child drummer (but read the listing carefully to be sure).
