Chances are if you are reading this you have a child or little one who is ready for a child drum set, or you are considering a junior drum set for yourself.  If so, congratulations!  Drumming is a great endeavor and skill, and getting a child drummer started early is commendable.

There are more child drum sets on the market than ever, and the quality and affordability junior drum sets far surpasses the time when many of us adult drummers struggled on either toy drums or hand-me-down regular sized drum sets that were way too big when we were kids.  You will have no problem finding a junior drum kit that is within your budget, sounds great, and provides your junior drummer a great kit for practicing.

However as you shop drum set for kids, we at FirstDrumSets.com recommend you also consider a used junior drum set, and there are many reasons why.  First, remember that many older drummers started on a junior drum set.  Assuming they enjoyed drumming as a hobby and progressed, they eventually upgraded to a full drum kit, and needed to get rid of their starter drum set.  Since junior drummers are constantly upgrading to full sets, there are always lots of great used child drum sets on the market.

Second, child drum sets are not 'toys', but rather 'real' instruments that your child will actually practice on.  They won't be the same quality as normal drum sets, but they will be pretty good and quality is important.  That means buying a used junior drum set means getting more for your money.  Buying a junior drum set also means a set that is built to withstand the extra wear children put on drum sets, so wear and tear is usually not an issue (and drum heads are easily replaced in the unlikely case that it is).

Buying you or your child a starter drum kit is like trying anyone on new hobby - long term affinity is unknown.  Here is where buying a used child drum set also make sense.  You child may turn out to love his jr drums and love drumming for years.  Or he may play with them for a week and be done with it.  Who knows!  Buying a used child drum kit means making less of an initial investment, so if you or your little one doesn't love drumming you haven't spent as much.

Where to buy a used junior drum set?  Where else but the world's largest online auction website - eBay.  There are hundreds of drum sets for sale on eBay, and many of these are drum sets for kids.  You'll find great deals on both used and new junior drums on eBay, but you'll have to do a lot of searching and looking to find the right one.

The biggest problem with buying on eBay is just that - its so large with so many listings that finding the right product to bid on can be tough.  Sellers don't always list kids drums in the right category or use good descriptions, and unless you are an expert in eBay search criteria terminology, you won't find the best listing for you.
